Find the Right Hook for Your Tool
Tell us what you're hanging and we'll tell you which Gator to buy.
Getting it right comes down to two things: the weight of the item, and how far it needs to sit off the wall (we call that projection). Find your tool below and click straight through to the hook that suits it.
Which hook for which tool
| What you're hanging | Hook we'd pick | Capacity | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step ladder | MEGA 6" Open | 20kg | 175mm of projection takes the full width of a folded ladder. |
| Whipper snipper | MEGA 4.5" Open | 20kg | Deep enough for the shaft, strong enough for the head. |
| Leaf blower | MEGA 4.5" Open | 20kg | Hangs by the handle with room for the housing. |
| Bike, by the handlebars | MEGA 4.5" Open | 20kg | Clears the frame and holds a full-size bike. |
| Garden hose, coiled | MEGA 4.5" Closed | 20kg | Closed design stops the coil rolling off. |
| Extension cord | MEGA 6" Closed | 20kg | Deepest closed hook — a whole lead in one loop. |
| Air hose, rope, straps | MIDI 2.5" Closed | 11kg | Compact and closed, so nothing works its way loose. |
| Power drill | MIDI 4" Open | 11kg | Hangs by the handle, battery and all. |
| Angle grinder | Angle Grinder Hook | 11kg | Purpose-built cradle that holds it upright and stable. |
| One shovel or rake | MIDI 2.5" Open | 11kg | Just enough projection for a single handle. |
| Two shovels | MIDI 4" Open | 11kg | 105mm takes two handles side by side. |
| Three shovels | MEGA 4.5" Open | 20kg | Step up in both depth and capacity. |
| Four shovels | MEGA 6" Open | 20kg | The full set of long-handled garden tools on one hook. |
| Spray bottles and cans | Cup Holder | 11kg | Cradles a bottle upright. Also fits a fire extinguisher. |
| Garden gloves and small gear | Basket with Towel Bar | 15kg | Basket for the bits, rail for the rags. |
| Tea towels, aprons, keys, leads | MINI Hook | 6.8kg | Small footprint for the house, laundry and office. |
| Cables, lanyards, looped items | MINI Dual Prong | 6.8kg | Two prongs so loops sit apart instead of tangling. |
Treat this as a recommendation. Suitability varies with the tool and the mounting surface.
Will it hold on your wall?
A Gator needs about 50mm of flat steel to reach full strength — 33mm for the MINI hooks. The quick test: stick a fridge magnet on the wall. If it sits flat and holds, so will a Gator. Corrugated walls are the exception, because the contours stop the magnet sitting flush — a Steel Wall Target panel solves that.
