An lnternational Women’s Day Feature
This International Women’s Day, we’re shining a light on the women behind Amarra DIY Hub - the strength, resilience, and family support that built the brand you see today.
Many people know Amarra DIY Hub through our quality products and trusted community. But what you might not always see is the woman behind the camera, the one quietly building, creating, and keeping everything moving forward.
That’s Karen.
The Reality of Running a Small Business
Running a small business means wearing many hats. And Karen truly wears them all.
From shaping strategy and leading creative direction to planning campaigns, managing finances, packing orders, and coordinating launches - her role is about making sure everything runs seamlessly. Much of this happens behind the scenes, but it’s where her passion lives.
Small business ownership isn’t glamorous every day. It requires resilience, long hours, adaptability, and the willingness to figure things out as you go. In a heavily male-dominated industry like hardware and DIY, that resilience becomes even more important.
Built on Resilience (and Two Older Brothers!)
Karen’s strength didn’t start in business - it started at home.
Growing up with two older brothers who loved their practical jokes and teased her about marrying channel Nine Report - the great Peter Harvey, meant she learnt early how to hold her own. While the innocent teasing was all part of growing up, it instilled something important: toughness, confidence, and the ability to stand her ground.
That resilience has proven invaluable in business. Navigating an industry traditionally led by men requires confidence and belief - and Karen brings both.
Strength Passed Down
Behind Karen stands another incredible woman - her mum, Margaret.
Margaret has been her mentor, her sounding board, and her steady support throughout the journey. The guidance, encouragement, and work ethic passed down from mother to daughter have shaped not only Karen’s leadership style but also the culture of Amarra DIY Hub itself.
Every big decision, every challenge, every milestone, Margaret has been there offering wisdom, perspective, and reassurance.
It’s a powerful reminder of how important women supporting women truly is.
What International Women’s Day Means to Us
For Karen and Margaret, International Women’s Day is about celebrating women who back themselves, build businesses, chase big ideas, and lift others along the way.
It’s about recognising mothers, mentors, and role models who shape us into who we become.
It’s a gentle reminder that this day can feel different for everyone. Today, we honour the inspiring women, past and present, who have shaped Australia and the World, celebrating all they have fought for, the values they stood strong for, and the legacies they’ve left behind.
Celebrating Women in Business
Amarra DIY Hub was built on family, determination, and belief. Belief that women belong in every industry. Belief that resilience creates opportunity. And belief that with the right support behind you, anything is possible.
Today we celebrate:
